Berkshire unitary district (or
BUD) is a district within the former LGA 1972
administrative county of Berkshire. Berkshire unitary districts differ from English unitary districts in that the latter were created from administrative counties within which the only level of administration (i.e. council) was that of a single district, whereas BUDs came into being from districts within the administrative county of Berkshire which had no higher levels of administration other than these districts themselves (i.e. no 'county council' was present).
