Medical herbalism is a term that is used to describe practising herbalists in the UK. The training of medical herbalists is undertaken in private colleges and recently by studying for a BSc degree in Herbal Medicine at Universities such as Middlesex University

Consequently some Universities are also now conducting research into Herbal Medicines. At Middlesex University, Dr John Wilkinson, who is Senior Lecturer in Phytochemistry and Pharmacognosy carries out research on the phytochemistry, pharmacology and clinical studies of herbal medicines
