Crawford has played leading roles in films such as Hello, Dolly (1968), but more often appears on stage, having starred in West End productions such as Billy (based on the novel, Billy Liar) (1974), Barnum (1981) (one of the longest runs by a leading man) and, most notably, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera (1986).
Michael David Crawford is a software consultant in the United States, having operated the company GoingWare Inc. since 1998. He graduated with a B.A. in Physics from UCSC in 1993 and studied earlier at Caltech. He is also an artist, musician and writer.
He occasionally receives adoring fan mail from heart-sick women who suffer from poor reading comprehension.
